The BV Newswire has learned that the world's famous Apollo Theater is planning a special tribute to late, great soul pioneer James Brown.
The famed venue where he kicked off his legendary career, and where he was first laid to rest during an emotion-filled memorial last month, will commemorate the legacy to Brown with a special posthumous induction ceremony during its 3rd Annual Spring Benefit on June 11.
During the glitzy fundraising event, the world renowned Godfather of Soul will be inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame and an all-star tribute concert.
"The format of the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame was originally to include three inductees as we did for the 2006 Spring Benefit, but we decided that James Brown was such an integral part of this Theater that we had to honor him and only him this year," Jonelle Procope, President & CEO of The Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc. told The BV Newswire today.
"The Apollo Theater was always a part of Mr. Brown's rich musical legacy from the beginning to the very end and he is definitely a huge part of ours. We absolutely had to do it this way - for him."
The talent line-up hasn't been confirmed as of yet.
Last year's ceremony featured performances by Little Richard, Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight.
