KERRY WASHINGTON: Marriage Material

Posted Feb 28th 2007 12:41PM by Karu F. Daniels

Acclaimed actress Kerry Washington stars in the new Chris Rock movie 'I Think I Love My Wife,' which opens on March 16.Actress Kerry Washington may have recently called off her longtime engagement to struggling actor David Moscow, but the Bronx-born beauty knows how to make "marriage" work.

Well, maybe in theory.

The L'Oreal spokesmodel and star of the upcoming comedy 'I Think I Love My Wife,' has a string of acclaimed acting performances under her belt; most notably playing the wives of late soul music legend Ray Charles and notorious Uganda dictator Idi Amin, respectively, in the films 'Ray' and 'The Last King of Scotland.'

For the aforementioned films, lead actors Jamie Foxx and Forest Whitakermade history by winning the Academy Awards for Best Actor.

"The new rumor is, if you cast me as your wife, you win an Oscar," Washington joked during a press junket promoting 'Wife' at New York's Regency Hotel yesterday morning.

She may be onto something.

Regarding her own personal affairs, she remained mum, but did confirm: "my engagement was called off...It's personal."

In 'Wife,' which is directed by and stars Chris Rock, Washington plays a long lost friend of a married successful investment banker who needs help landing a job. The sex-deprived banker's conventional life gets turned upside down when things get too close for comfort.

The acclaimed actress Kerry Washington played the wives of (l-r) Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in the film 'The Last King of Scotland' and R&B legend Ray Charles in 'Ray.' Both films went on to garner high marks and lead actor Academy Award wins.On the subject of "marriage," Washington commented, "I know people who are married who are really, really happy and I know people who are married who aren't."

"I know people who live together and are really, really happy and I know people who live together and aren't," she continued. "So I think it's a personal decision. I think it's really about asking yourself what do I really want, and having the courage to ask yourself what do I want and doing it."

She noted that her parents are still married, and they were her inspiration.

'I Think I Love My Wife,' opens on March 16.

This summer, Washington will star opposite Michael Chiklis in the eagerly anticipated action flick 'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.' She is also cast in 'Lakeview Terrace' with Samuel L. Jackson, and 'Life is Hot in Cracktown' with Evan Ross.

1. Hey Kerry how about you and me researching some one night stand material for your next book.

chas at 4:04AM on Mar 1st 2007

2. why does she look different in the picture above? did she get a face lift? she looked much better in Ray. From what i understand, she was engaged for like 6 years to some white guy who didnt respect her and was cheating throughout the relationship.

lindsey at 11:35AM on Mar 1st 2007

3. I think Ms. Washington is doing an outstanding job. If she called off her engagement, then that was her choice. We are on the outside looking in. Keep up the good work girl. Much Love!!

6. she is a great actdress and i think we should stop talking about either folks personally life and worry about their own. i agree we on the outside looking in.

MARCEY at 7:36AM on Mar 3rd 2007

7. Nose done? Looks like she got in-shape. She looks hard. I say she still fine. She needs to let me put a smile on her face. If she was with dude for that long and they didnt get married, she knew it wasnt right. Better to get away before then after.

Keith at 8:13AM on Mar 3rd 2007

8. Nose job? What are you people seeing that I'm not seeing, because her nose looks the same to me. I noticed that her hair is longer and, like Keith said, she got in shape. But anyway, good for her getting rid of that bum. Now she can focus on her career.

Rod at 8:25AM on Mar 3rd 2007

9. I THINK IT'S TIME FOR PEOPLE TO GROW UP AND STOP BEING SO RACIST. NOSE JOBS OR ANY OTHER JOBS IS DONE BY ALL RACES, IT IS THE IGNORANCE OF RACIST PEOPLE THAT DESTROYS THE PERCEPTION OF AMERICAN PEOPLE TODAY. SADLY TO SAY BUT THIS IGNORANCE IS WHAT AMERICA IS MADE OF AND WHAT AMERICA WILL DIE OF. IN SAYING ALL OF THIS LETS JUDGE EACH OTHER BY THE COLOR OF OUR BLOOD (RED). EVEN MOST JOB APPLICATIONS VIOLATE THE CONSTITUTION. THEY CLASSIFY EVERYONE FROM A DIFFERENT PLACE EXCEPT WHITE PEOPLE EVEN THOUGH THIS PLACE WAS ORIGINALLY DISCOVERED BY THE INDIANS AND NOT GEORGE WASHINGTON. AFRICAN AMERICAN, LATIN AMERICAN AND ETC, BUT THE WHITE ISN'T ATTACHED TO AMERICAN WHICH SHOWS OWNERSHIP OF AMERICA. INDIANS WHO WERE HERE FIRST HAVE TO PUT OTHERS. BEFORE KINGDOMS CHANGE, PEOPLE MUST CHANGE. KAH-THINK ON THIS AND PASS IT OWN..........

10. This is a beautiful black princess. I've had a crush on this girl since she was a teen. I have followed her career and I was upset when she did not get an Oscar for best supporting Actress in Ray. She was exceptional as Ray's wife. I can't say that I am sorry she broke up with this guy, and it's not because he's white; but I do wish her every happiness. I would like to meet her one day. That'll be my dream come true! Hey, I just broke up with my girl also, and I am also from the Bronx, so maybe ....! Hey a guy can have a fantasy can't he?
LUV U KERRY!

Ric at 9:15AM on Mar 3rd 2007

11. Whatever WHITE lord(lol)....it is what it is, and all that crap you"re trying to pass on to us is just that,Crap.Keep it to your self.

Dominic Smith at 9:27AM on Mar 3rd 2007

12. I think she looks great and she is doing a fantastic job with her career. On relationships..., it's not guaranteed that you will find that PERMANENT spouse just because your parents did. Hopefully she finds someone that she can spend and share the rest of her life with as an equal. Keep up the good work gurl!

Mestisha at 9:32AM on Mar 3rd 2007

13. lol at white lord:The nose comment is something that we usually talk about between ourselves ie;dark skin, good hair bad hair, light skin. It does need to be addressed, but not by you. Spread the love over at sites where racism is abundant. Back to Kerry, there's an Oscar in her future. She's beatiful and talented and I wish her happiness in her love life

tonyrome at 9:42AM on Mar 3rd 2007

14. Kerry is a Queen. She, Gabrielle Union, Regina King and Nia Long are among our most dignified, beautiful and talented young ladies in Hollywood. They each have taken any role that has come their way and they rocked it. Unfortunately, I can also easily imagine that David Moscow is exactly like the character in the film "Honey" with Jessica Alba. In the film he started out being charming. He then quickly brought out his true nature which was that of a prick-scumbag. I could be wrong of course. Kerry however will continue to shine. As a black man, I am so proud to see our black women and black men for that matter onscreen, when they are given the chance to tackle characters that go well beyond the stereotype. It's been long overdue.

15. I think that everyone is entitled to live there own lives and we have no rights to judge or critisize anyone of what God gave them, which is the right to make choices. SO to me it does not matter if she got 4 nose josbs or if she married an alien from jupitor if thats what she wants then I happy for her and I hope shes happy in life doing whatever in here life she likes.
